I built this bike a year or so ago and rode the heck out of it, using it to ride to work and the shops, and around the park with my wife and son.
The paint I used seemed to chip if you looked at it, and the bike was looking a little worse for wear so I decided it was time for a makeover.
Got some red bricks, a new set of wheels laced up, new bars and forks, and a respray in Cyan, using PowerPlus rattle cans (Aussie brand).

When I first built it.

Lost the rear brake too. I liked the look of that, how it went through the frame.

When I first built it, I couldn't find a 26" coaster hubbed wheel and didn't want to wait to get one built, so I ran the rear brake cable throught the frame.
I prefer the cleaner look of no cables/levers on my bikes, and have found a local wheelbuilder, so all my bikes now have coaster hubs.

Re: New coat and shoes-Update 2/2/2010 Happy now

I wasn't totally happy with the red tires on the blue frame, but gave it a few weeks to see if i would change my mind :? .......I tried some whitewalls and black tires on it, and liked the look of the black tires the most. They are 3g Slicky G 26 x 2.125 with the logo sanded off. The flipped MTB bars were good for a short ride, but after a longer ride on the weekend, I decided to fit a different stem and my ol' faithful Noah's Arc bars.....it's much better to ride now.

This latest version is looking quite nice. Would you consider putting "truss" bars back on the front fork? They looked great on the before photo.

Yep, I'm definately going to do that........just got to get another can of the blue paint.

Re: New coat and shoes-Update 10/2/2010-Happy now!!

It's been raining here for the past month.....too wet to paint the forks, and the slicks stick pretty good in the wet, but I fitted a set of Maxxis Holy Rollers so I'd feel a bit more secure. I think I'll leave them on, as I think they give the bike a "beefier" look.

I like the simplicity of this bike. I'm guessing that you raise the seat for real riding, though. Looking forward to seeing truss rods back on there.

I'm looking forward to getting the other fork on too, just wish it would stop raining so I can paint. We've had 85% to 95% humidity for the past couple of weeks, so it's either been wet and steamy or hot and steamy :( .
The frame is 18" and I'm 5'6" with short legs, so it's not too bad a fit for me with the seat down, but yes I do lift it a couple of inches if I'm going to ride more than a couple of miles.

Cool! I like the simplicity too. Did you add the lower bar, or is that stock? It's a very interesting frame. :D

Unchained, It's a Raleigh MTB frame and I added the extra tube. Here's what it looked like when I first got it from the dump.

Wow you did an outstanding job with a crappy dump bike! I mean that in all sincerity. I like the trusses too! 8)

One of my all time favs!...Lolx:D

Thanks for all the kind words.

OK, now it's really done  .
I found a cheap set of all black wheels on special - the spokes are painted and the "annodizing" chips really easily - now I know why they were so cheap  . But they look good from a distance and are easily touched up with a black marker pen.
I painted the faux truss rod fork blue, but wasn't really happy with how it looked, so the chrome one is there to stay. Also went back to the 3g Slicky G tires and twisted the bars down slightly.
