On Saturday morning I rode my '70s AMF middleweight from Queens to Williamsburg,Brooklyn. Being I didn't get hit by some jerk texting and driving on Metroploitan avenue(this is New york ,you know!) I knew it was going to be a great day.
Lots of rat rods, bobbed bikes and Betty Page look a likes. The crew from Gasoline Alley was there with Indian Larry's Roth tribute bike and Chain Of Mystery from the Discovery Biker Build off series. If you want inspiration for a build just look at one of these works of art!
My bike is a rather mild Roadmaster(my other projects are in various stages of completion) but lots of guys stopped and chatted about bicycles. Lots of interest in my RAt Rod Bikes .com decal.
Hopefully next year time will allow me to stick around for Sic's pub crawl into Manhattan.
Rat rods are alive and well and this hobby(or obsession) of ours is growing daily.
Happy trails,
Jeff

Your AMF middleweight looks more like a 60's bike. Are you sure it's from the 70's?

It's got the BMA sticker on the seat post. I read a post here that it became standard in '71. So I guess it's around then. The AMF logo looks like the '70s Harleys. The truss rods are off an old girls Shelby. I Rattle canned them red . Duplicolor Metalcast is great stuff. The rack is off a '60s Schwinn Fleet I'm working on.
Regards,
Jeff
