I just sold my Electra Townie. It was the bike that got me back into bike commuting, cruisers, and ultimately, Rat Rod Bikes.

It served its purpose for a few years, but I have moved on to newer... err... older bikes. Currently, I have four others in my stable. I think the Townie was more expensive than my three cheapest rats combined. And I can find replacement parts for the rats in the trash. Can't say that for the townie.

Now I'm gonna crack a beer and weep softly into my balled fist. Maybe I'll play "Changes" by Black Sabbath.

(sniff)

The funny part? My girlfriend is demanding that I invest the cash from the Townie into more bike tools. She's a keeper.

Can't have loved it too much. I was only able to find one crumby picture of it.

I had a Townie that I also commuted and rode every where. I sold it to finance more bikes. I decided the laid back riding position was not for me. The "Feet Forward Technology"= fancy name for cranks forward.

too bad. those townies are nice bikes. I have been debating selling a few of m rats to finance an Electra ( opposite of what you did) I am looking at the Sraight 8 Chopper and the Baloon 8 speed Townie.

Yeah, seeing old people on your bike hurts. What really steamed me was when my next door neighbor bought the same bike.

How... original.

Even worse, it's usually what appears to be retired couples.

Had one of these Electras before they started jacking their geometry all around, really like it except the Aluminum frame was too flexy for my taste, cut it loose on CL. Electra had some straightbar and other near Schwinn copies at the time that looked pretty good before they went nuts with the new stuff.

I have an early Electra frame in the basement. Straight bar with a crazy red, white and blue paint job. I'll try to post a pic tomorrow.

OK, straight-ish bar frame. Patriotic and totally up for grabs. Cheap, even!
