My wife and I went on the Allegheny River Trail biking today. We have only had our bikes since 7/29/11.
We ride about 3 miles every evening after dinner. We drove 40 miles this morning to get to this trail. It
is 34 miles long, paved on an old railroad bed pretty level that runs along the Allegheny river. Today we
rode 5.2 miles on this trail then back for a total of 10.4 miles. We just have single speed bikes. It was a
great time and a beautiful day.

Rails to trails are kinda our thing. We travel around the country to ride them. Hope to ride that one some day. We've been to PA a few times but have yet to ride there. A lot of great trails there.

Sheryl and I don't mine to haul our bikes to locations that we want to ride.
We wish that better and longer trails were closer, but we have tried all the local stuff by now.

Put a Cateye on one of your bikes and find a speed cadence that is right for you, and also don't be a distance hound, it can spoil the enjoyment.

Once you start getting used to a few miles, consider getting padded riding shorts. If the black spandex offends you, look for "mountain bike shorts" basically a padded short with a less skin tight outer layer short.

That's a gorgeous place to ride and I used to ride there every chance I got. I lived about 15 miles down river from Franklin, PA. Here's a photo of my 63 Tiger just off of that trail, next to the Allegheny River.
