I’m finally done with my version of a Schwinn American. I call mine “American Rat” !
I built the frame with all used bike parts, only new parts are the mirrors and the tires.
I wanted a long, low stretched bike, but built on the cheap and my design.
One idea I had in my head was building my own springer fork that was workable but something different than what most have seen.
I also wanted to use a old cast iron seat I picked up years back that I think came off of an old tricycle. My idea was to make a springer seat that was adjustable for length as well as weight. I used a cheap mountain bike rear spring shock assembly, but put on a lighter spring.
a few more parts welded on for chain guides and my kick stand foot
sand blasted and painted it was time to assemble
Then the handle bars proved themselves to be to short, so I lengthened them and added the mirrors, grips, pedals, and the headlight
and lastly I had to have my “ego” shot !
And just to show that I have a heart, I took the Rat up to visit my 95 year young mother and let her sit on it . She was thrilled to get out and be in the photo !
finally just to show it is rideable, a short video with my fat but on it !
