This is more of a rebuild than a build. Got this one from a local antique store. It had everything on it except for the headlight. I bought a 24" girls Roadmaster they had that a period-styled headlight that fit the theme. So I bought the girl's bike just for the headlight. I installed new rim strips, tubes, and tires and scuffed and cleaned everything up with wax, copper and brass wire brushes and chrome polish. It makes a pretty good survivor. I removed, repacked, and regreased all bearings and did overhauls on the hubs and removed all spokes and cleaned them individually and relaced them and now its good to go!

That is beautiful! Haha I have the same bike I picked up last spring nearly identical! Its hard to track down the exact date of the old AMF bikes, I originally thought mine was 57 but it is probally between 61 and 64. My looks nearly identical to yours, but yours is in much better shape. My badge on the front is missing, as the headlight. Also the rear basket holder is wrong or after market on mine. http://www.skullforest.com/skull-blog here is a link to some pictures and videos of mine. Nice bike, and am grateful for the posting as it will help me get mine complete.

man that bike looks awesome the color the style and the work you did to it.
it is a sweet ride!!!
how did you get those wheels so clean I tried cleaning my wheels on one of my builds and they don't even look half as good.
good job on a sweet bike.
I dig those 5 star sprockets a lot their really cool .
these amf bicycles really had some cool features on them.
thanks for sharing
Sean

I think the bike is a 65 I found a 1965 advert, with the exact same bike as ours, star sprocket, same seat post, head badge. You cant really figure out any of this era of AMF's info from the numbers on the frame they made way to much stuff and the numbers are too cryptic. I have moved to searching for magazine advertisements. I also got a 1965'ish Shelby Balloon bike by AMF with the exact same star sprocket and frame. I am even more in the dark of what that bike was originally like. Thanks again for your pictures up till now this is the best images of a AMF Roadmaster Saturn I have been able to find, and it looks all original. It will help me finish mine up.
