I got this from a junk pile hoard in a small town. I bought it for $25 for the tank, which I’ll use on another bike.
The frame had a missing cantilever frame tubing plug. I made one.
The frame had two cracks, a few small dents and holes in chain stays from a loose crank. I filled them by welding with filler rod.
The original seat post was short and used a wedge like a quill stem. I replaced the post with a long one, cut a grove so a binder and bolt could be used. These long replacement seat posts bend so a 12 inch section of 3/8 galvanized pipe was slathered with JB Weld and hammered inside the seat post.
I laced up wheels by salvaging rims, hubs, spokes and nipples from stash junk.
Rear wheel made from a 5 speed steel wheel. Spokes are the right length for the coaster hub.
The spokes from both sides of the hub are the same length.
I salvaged parts from 3 Bendix red bands to make one. One had broken gear teeth, one was missing parts.
Front wheel was made by robbing spokes and nipples from an alloy quick release junk mountain bike wheel and using them to lace up an old steel rim and 94mm hub.
Work stand.
