So with the rear wheels of my trike in progress and now for my new to me 70' Huffy moterized bike, i've been having a tricky time finding a 24 x 1 3/8th tire that can replace the worn out 30yr old tires i've come across on these two bikes. A new 24 x 1 3/8ths or 24 x 1 1/4 tire from the LBS has a sub size of 34 - 547 circumference with the circumference of the old tires all being 540 circumference, not letting the new tires bead up to the slightly smaller rim. I get this bead "gap" that has way too much slop to bead up on the rims safely.

In an ideal world, i could just relace the trike hubs to a more conventional 24 x 1.5 rim, but id just really appreciate any leads on a few tires, 24 x 1 3/8th with an old school circumference of 540, not 547. The LBS said it could be found under a wheelchair size tire, in like gray. Any ideas? Thanks.

Most any Schwinn dealer in my area of Michigan has or can get that size, so I would think that others could get them. Before I give you some addresses or numbers of the Michigan guys, let me look to see what I've got hanging around. I'll try to check them out tomorrow afternoon.

The wheeliechair tires in gray run around $12.00 to 15.00 (new) in the Flint area. I might have a couple of decent ones if you're interested. But let me double check before I say that I actually have them.

Talk at ya tomorrow evening,
Chainsaw

finding or ordering a 'normal' size in black or gumwall should be a simple matter. tell your shop J&B importers (probably the largest distributor of bread-n-butter bike parts in the US) has both in stock in several warehouses- should only be a couple days away from just about anywhere. i hate to say this, but perhaps you're talking to the wrong employee.....:?

usually the issue is the other way 'round and the schwinn size puzzles the shop! :D
