Not that fresh of a find , as I got this a couple moths ago . I tore right into it & didn't get any before pics , and the during shots are crappy cell phone pics . I though I was buying a chrome Flightliner , as it has twin top tubes & a Murray chainring . But none of my Spaceliner parts would fit

There was a recent post showing the 3 different lower tube styles and what they were that I can't seem to find now. One frame goes from the head tube to the seat tube, another goes from the head tube to the seat stays and the last goes from the head tube to the rear dropouts.

Other than those obvious differences I'm not sure what the subtle changes are between Flightliners, Spacerliners and Cosmics.

The picture of your frame doesn't look like a Murray to me. I thought that all of their frames had that very distinctive tube junction at the seat tube.

Scrumblero might have some info for you. He's been researching the liner bikes for a while.

the early JC higgins "flightliner style" frames were a bit different from the later "liner" ones, that may be what it is...

what the number on it?

I knew you'd sniff out a 'liner question.

I'm pretty sure this is a Chain Bike Co. (CBC) / Ross frame, and not a Murray. I have the same frame in the garage, I'll try to get a picture for reference.

Murrays most often had pointed dropouts. They did have fishhook dropouts similar to yours in the '50's, but not quite the same. Also, the headtube is a bit longer than that of a flightliner/spaceliner, correct? (You said your parts wouldn't fit...) The bar under the BB is definitely not a Murray feature either.

Very neat frame! Better than a spaceliner, IMO. I really like the geometry of my frame like this one. Seems a bit more compact in the middle than a Murray cruiser frame. Very different and cool.

Here are a few pics of my frame from when I bought it. (As a note, a 26" Ross guard fits this frame well... and I believe this crank is a CBC/Ross crank).

The headtube is indeed longer , I shaved a 1/4" off the bottom to use the rat trap . Unchained's frame looks the same , I'd say Ross it is .

I made extensions to use the rack & chaingaurd

Yes, that's a CBC/Ross chainring, I had a JC Higgins that had it, was typical on late 50s-early 60s CBC built bikes. -Adam

I built it like a Flightliner/Spaceliner . Dig the Double Rat Trap front end . I need to get some better pic's , but I already traded it away , these are from it's maiden voyage a couple of month's ago .
