Apes from bike carrier tubes??

I am selling a couple of higher end bike carriers that I picked up cheap at a yard sale. After looking at them, it seems like they could be cut up to use as handle bars. If I had tubing bender, I think I could make some apes out of them.

Has anyone ever done this?

Not made them out of carriers but have made many- and my various students make em out of scrap tubing. The tubes need to be 16SWG minimum or they just won't be stiff enough. A simple way to make a them is shown below- all you need is two lengths of 7/8", a short length of 1" and two short pieces of 1&1/8" all in 16SWG
