I'm thinking of ordering some wheels from Rini Enterprises. They would be special order wheels so I would have to pay up front. That doesn't bother me. I asked what the shipping charges would be and was told that they couldn't tell me without having the wheels in hand. Now, I can understand that to a point but they did not even want to approximate. They are 26" 72 spoke freewheel wheels. If i'm going to be paying $110 up front without knowing what the shipping is going to be I don't like that.

So, my question to you, O' wise ones is about how much would it cost, do you think to ship wheels from CA to Maine?

Or, how much do two steel rims, 144 spokes and two hubs weigh, so I could ask UPS online or something. I figured some one of you has probably shipped stuff all over before and might have an answer on the top of your head. Anyway, it doesn't seem like very good customer service to me.

Also, is there somewhere else I might be able to get these wheels? I guess I need to talk to other websites, Rini was recommended to me...

Whatever, I'm really too hungry to be trying to think or type right now.

Two wheels can easily fit into one frame box shipped thru USPS for just under 20
It cost 18 for me to send two 28inch metal clad wood wheels to cali from tx

I've had terrible luck with anything on the bigger end from USPS. I got rocked for 20$ for two tires alone.. that being said, went to UPS with a middleweight frame/fork and was quoted 20$ for something packed bigger and 10 lbs heavier.

I just got a quote from UPS for a pair of tires and tubes, 32x30x4 and 10lbs...about $20.
Shipping costs have caused my to do most of my sales through Craig's list now.

my LBS gave me the tip that Fedex Ground Residential is the cheapest way to ship wheels.

They gave me a wheel box and I sent one wheel out for about $13. Weighed about 6.5 pounds.

Box size is what gets you with USPS.

Rini is flaky, and they're on the high side for shipping.

Last week I ordered a set of fenders (front and rear).... instead they sent me 3 rear fenders! What the heck?

Right Jerry. Do not go over 109 length/girth with USPS. It starts to get pricey.
Here is the way to measure ur boxes:

I cut down larger bike boxes used for shipping partially assembled bikes that I get from my local shop.
The box measuring 108 is in front of one measuring about 125

One frame with fork and a lot of parts can be shipped on the cheap using my guidelines and USPS.
These have been some of the heaviest framesets I have ever sent costing only 25 each to ship.
