i have a 1949 straightbar that has struts on the front..i want to switch to a springer but know they need special dents in the front fender to fit.. i noticed mine has dents already for the struts.will a springer fit this fender as well or are the dents different and i would need a different fender? thanks for any help with this.

I had never noticed myself, and, so I wondered, Hmmm. :? Then I headed to the bike rack! The spacing is the same, but the shape of the indent is different. An indent for a blade style fork is wider. Who knew? Me now!

hey, thanks so much for checkin..do you think i could bend out a bigger dent in the truss fender or is the size difference to much to make it work?

The indents are only slightly different, and do not present your biggest hurdle. On the rigid-fork-fender, the fender mount hole is large and centered directly under the center of the fork crown. On the springer-fork-fender, the fender mount hole is much smaller and offset to the front edge of the fork assembly yoke. This would be manageable if it stopped at this...

The biggest difference, and one that I think will kill the deal, is that the springer fender has a flatter, less arched radius. I think this is because it must clear the yoke of the springer fork assembly which hangs down into the fender arch space of a rigid-fork-fender. This is based on the parts I have had... your experience may differ. :D

hey guys..thanks alot for the info. ill just have to buy a springer fender then.this help saved me a lot of worry and gave me what i needed to know to purchase for the swap.thanks again

i thought i would update this for everyone. i got the springer on the bike.. i also flipped the yolk at the bottom so it would rake the front end and give it a cool stance. i was going to go on everyones suggestions and buy a springer fender since the strut one wasnt the same. i didnt have the money so i tried to see if the strut fender i had fit the springer.low and behold it did without problem. maybe since i flipped the yolk the indent that is needed for clearance on a springer fender is not needed.. either way it looks great and i wanted to pass the new info along..you CAN use the strut fender for a springer. in case anyone else ever has this question.
