Atom drum brake shoe install

I've got an Atom drum brake rear hub I'm rebuilding for a klunker project.

Has anyone changed the shoes in one of these? The springs are SUPER strong. I broke the spring locator pins off of one shoe while trying to stretch the springs over them. There must be an easier way.

HELP!
