I setup at a local bike swap meet. I only sold a few things, but I found this hub.

im not sure what I'm going to do with it, or what it's worth. But I got it for $20, so even if its just another part, it's cool.

nice find. I've been seeing these here and there on the forum but I have no idea what they do. How do these differ from a regular hub?

It's a drum brake hub. Most of the ones you've seen here are front hubs, but this is a rear one that can have a freewheel added.

Atom rear break drum, common to Schwinn 5 speed with S-2 wheels
Here is my sons daily rider '80's 5 speed cruiser

Great find and the price is the best, they range easily over $80.00-$120 depending on condition

36 large spoke holes. Probably from a Schwinn TWINN. The large spoke holes are meant for fatter spokes like 12 gauge or 10 gauge. The lack of spoke hole deformations suggests it could be nos. If you build it up with regular spokes, you will probably want little washers under the spoke heads to keep them from pulling thru the flange or popping the heads off.

Krate versions can be much more $$$. (fewer spoke holes, 28s, smaller holes).

Folks who build klunkers are probably drooling over these pictures. An atom drum brake hub is arguably the holy grail of klunker hubs. You've got a cherry there!
