Any of you guys have a beater bike for taking out of town or on trips? I have been thinking about it and wanted something that looks cool and rides pretty good, but if, heaven forbid, something happens or it gets stolen or something it would be no big loss. I had been to good ole Target a couple of times and saw the Ripcurl cruiser they had there for 110 bucks, figured what the heck, I like the frame design and the one I decided on seemed to be decent for the money. Has to be the truest set of wheels I own and the bike rides nice and straight, I repacked the coaster with full synthetic Mobil 1 grease and it spins forever. I added a set of GT bmx pedals and a more comfortable seat as well as a set of Odyssey bmx V bars. Got a trip to Ocracoke planned here in a few weeks and I think this will due the trick, post pics of your beater traveling bike if you have one. :D

Funny you should ask. Some time ago I canabilized the handle bar stem from a Huffy hybrid to use on my Rollfast cruiser. More recently I picked up a parts bike. I culled some real treasure from that beast, but most importantly and was able to get the old Huffy back up to nearly 100% (it needs a front derailleur). Is it a beauty? No... Is it something special? No... Would I loose any sleep if it vanished? No... Is it in working condition and a ride I feel I can depend on? Yep!

Exactly, something reliable that doesn't really mean much and can easily be replaced, unlike my 54 Evans Colson that would be impossible to relocate a replacement for in the condition mine is in. Just gonna hang this one and my wifes bike on the rack out back of the Trailblazer and roll out!! 8)

Here It Is...

Clearly, if anyone stole this thing, they must need a bicycle worse than I do! Shiny rims, all greased, and in good working order. You would be hard pressed to find much rust here. That "beast" I mentioned earlier came with Kenda mountain bike tires. When I blow out one of these, I'll swap them out. All this thing needs is a front derailleur (you got one to spare?) This Huffy owes me NOTHING!

Cool Huffy for sure, you must be about 6'6" tall to ride that beast

I should by the end of the week. It's off of an older 10 spd. Huffy mtb. I'm making this one into my "Po-lice" 3 sp. cruiser. Let me know if you still need it, shifter, cable, & deraileur. I don't need it.

Right on! Not a bad bike for the money.

I wondered about this cruiser when I saw it at Target, it looks plenty beefy.

On trips I just grab whatever, so far I have no bike that isn't replaceable, stealing any of them would make me sad, whether it's something I bought, built, or was given, I can't imagine being more upset about one over the other.

Have fun at Ocracoke, it's a great little island. I've taken the Swan Quarter ferry to get there (that 3 hour trip will really give you the time you need to relax and unwind before you arrive) and take the Hatteras ferry for quick trips. Make sure you lube your chain before and after you go. Last summer we stayed at a house in Nags Head around labor day when the hurricane came through. I took 2 mountain bikes, 1 cruiser, and kids bikes, my Gary Fisher was the best kept of all the bikes and after sitting out there for 4 days the chain was so rusted it was binding up. :x
