This is the manual shift two speed, I don't have the shift cable for it yet, but I have the actuater piece screwed on, but any kind of pressure on it, it skips and pops, anyone,anyone,bueller,anyone ...

It comes apart the same as a regular coaster hub. Open it up and have a look, those are extremely simple hubs. High is direct drive, and low is a simple planetary set. If I recall correctly, screwing the bell crank down all the way will push it out of gear. I think there's also coil return spring that may be weak or worn down. It's possible but unlikely that gear teeth have been chewed by an unskilled user, if so it will be easily observed upon disassembly.
