So I started thinking... If you have an old tanker, and it's customized, why not do something unusual or rat rodd-ish with the electric horn? Has anybody changed standard horn units out for other unusual horns of some sort? I've seen people put old doorbells inside old metal bicycle tanks, but I don't think i'm going to do that. I've got a tank coming for my Hawthorne soon and want to do something interesting with the horn- has anybody seen an idea that stands out, or done something sifferent themsleves? I'm thinking that something like a 1930's Model A Ford- an "ooga" horn- would be really cool inside a tank, but don't know that a reasonably sized unit exists or could be put inside a tank. Any thoughts?

i have a model a ooga after market horn on the nove and its really big .. but i think if you take the horn off it should fit and since it will be incased in the tank that could act as the horn .. never know till you try . think autozone carrys them still

what about a wolf whistle ? dont know what the horn actually looks like but they should be pretty small that would be neat

You can occasionally find the old "a-ooga" horns on ebay if that's the sound your going for, but they're physical horns you'd mount on the handlebars. Some can be quite ornate and attractive.

I bought a '57 roadmaster which once had a horn in the tank but was missing all of the interior goodies except for the tank itself by the time I got it. I hooked up a battery pack, an illuminated LED toggle switch which I highly recommend, and a generic beeper from Radio Shack. It sounds like a microwave or oven timer going off. It's not an entirely impressive or original sound, but it does what it's supposed to do, alert people on the bike path that they're being passed.

My next bike is getting an Air-Zound on it. That won't just tell the slow pokes to get out of the way, it'll scare the bejesus out of them. Cars, too.

Be careful if you go the siren route. Many towns, counties and states have ordinances against anything having a siren unless it's an emergency vehicle. Some of the fines can be heavy under certain circumstances!
We had a mentally retarted guy in our town that had flashing lights and sirens on his bike. The police looked the other way .... for awhile! Caused quite a few accidents from scaring people and thinking he could just ride out in front of everyone when the lights and siren was on. Don't know whatever happened to him, but I know he got hit a few times and spent some time the hospital.

Hey what about disecting one of them toys that make engine sounds or talk! Could be cool to pull up next to someone a hit the button that starts an engine sound revving or squealing tires.

I was thinking about them little plastic toys that Walmart and other stores carry for around 10.oo. Taking an old varoom apart would probably get you a visit from an angry RRB gang!

now that sounds awesome i might just do that with my bicycle figure the sound things are small enough .. next time my nephews come over ill be "looking" at there toy cars haha

I threw together a "siren" for my chopper out of an old car alarm horn, a $3.00 Radio Shack momentary switch and a $4.00 6-volt dry cell from Wally Mart. It is LOUD, and definitely gets attention. You would probably have to do some creative trimming on the horn to get it to fit inside most tanks, but if you can scrounge one up for nothing or next to nothing it might be worth a shot.

Making things that don't belong or fit together function is fun for me, so I'm willing to try... I did see Klaxon? or Klaxton... someone please correct me... bicycle horns on eBay from the '20's or '30's that are supposed to sound like a Model A horn, and they look like I could hide one inside a tank if I worked things out right... I don't feel like spending $60 on one though. :(

its not a tank horn but its as loud as a car
