Does anybody know how I can train to become a bicycle mechanic and get the license without haveing to go through an exspensive college prgram outta state?
In illinois you don't have to be "licensed" to work on bikes, the stuff like united does I believe is just a "certification" program. Which may look good to an employer but I don't think it's going to be necessary depending on what you need a license for exactly. There's nothing better or more impressive than experience in my opinion. If you just want to learn check out the park tool website and see what shops give classes. Some are free other cost $.
The only license stuff I see is for road bike pro cycling teams and the licenses are from their governing bodies ...
I just dunno how iowas legislative laws go about stuff like that. IK you have to have gone to school to be able to work as a car mechanic and or open your own auto repair shop here in Iowa. I dunno if the same applys for bicycle mechanics or not. Just dont wanna open a shop then one day get arrested or sued for practicing without a license lol.
