i decided today that my grandma needs a bike. shes mentioned it before, and she saw a trike today that she liked. that wouldve been great because i can get my hands on a schwinn trike for dirt. big basket, big comfy seat, blah blah blah. so i let her take a spin on the trike i was going to get her, the guy was cool and it was big enough, but she had some trouble turning, and her knees hitting, just wasnt good. she said she knew how to ride a bike, well segot on the black target cruiser and sure as shizz she was good. but shes just a tad big for it, just doesnt seem to fit her. i told her i would see what i could do, plus this will give me my next project. so does anyone have any good cheap bigger bikes? were working with bout 150 bucks. all we need is a frame. i was also thinking trading my jc higgins and seeing if someone had two cheap chinese huffy's and making it one long big easy cruiser forher to ride. could that work?

sometimes all you need is a layback seatpost so that when you turn the handlebars they clear your knees while pedaling. are you looking for a step through or a tall frame like 19 inch or more seat tube? the Onyx 29er is a big Walmart cruiser. the Long Beach Cruiser has a long frame 50 inch wheelbase, but then you are up to $250 .

theres no necessity for frame design. and it doesnt have to be tall. shes a whopping 5 foot 6. haha just want to make sure its as big and comfortable as possible and easy to ride.

She doesn't need a bigger bike, she needs a longer bike.

I'm with clamdigger........A layback post is a must on many of these cramped cruisers. I have to use layback posts on my Schwinn's, otherwise I can't stand to ride them.

Seek out a deal on a newer used Electra Hawaii, or similar, with the forward crank position. These are around 3 inches longer in the front triangle, than your typical cruiser. Once you ride one of these, most everything else feels like a kid's bike! The forward crank also allows the use of a lower proper seat position, which makes it easier to reach the ground with your feet.

If you are in Riverside, CA, you're welcome to bring her by my place to try one of my wife's Electra's, to see if it's a good fit.

i think one of the electras sounds good. ive only ridden one ( a lime green rs with rat fink add ons) and it was comfortable for me. i think im just going to have to keep an eye out for one, maybe just a frame and build it up all around. kinda sad she didnt fit the white schwinn trike  it coulve fit a coca-cola ice chest in the back perfect. ill keep everyone updated.

well ill be! looks like im going to her house today.

Keep in mind that's an older one with a short frame. The newer "crank forward" frames are about 3" longer on the front triangle. The older ones feel just about like any other cruiser, out there. Also, if Grandma lives in a hilly area, you may consider one with a Nexus 3 speed. If she don't like the bike, she won't ride it.

the hil part isnt a problem. its going afew blocks to the 99 scent store, maybe to mcdonalds across the street, and down to her friends house about a mile away. but thanks for pointing out the shorter frame! back to cl

dang, kinda want that one for myself. she always rode a guys red beach cruiser before, so im sure she wont mind its a guys. but it looks more like the one ive ridden before

Yeah, that's actually one of the lowest priced single speed Electra "Cruiser's" I've seen. If it's indeed in "excellent" shape, it looks like a pretty good value.

Just so ya know, the Electra "Cruiser" model is steel framed, and the "Coaster" model looks identical, but is aluminum.

I'd recommend the Electra as well. not only is it a longe bike, but the foot forward frame design well help keep her feet closer to the ground when she stops. 8)
