So, what does a guy like me who loves old cruisers and rat rods (name drop  ) ride when he (or she) wants to go and play... OFF ROAD? "Big Nasty" started as a 82' Columbia Clipper single speed cruiser i've had since like 1992 and had rebuilt it into a 3speed offroader, 3speed roadster and alot of other styles, but I think i've gone too far this time.
Took the then single speed Clipper (as it was last left as), my wife's 40lb paper weight Next calls a Powerclimber and a few spare parts from here and there and built this 21 speed, with aluminum rims and brand new WTB Velociraptor tires, trail creepin but still very comfortable trail bike. I got a 96' Specialized 21speed hardrock AX hardtail as my "mountain bike" that gave up the new WTB tires to create "Big Nasty".
Just too er' on a test ride out in the boonies around my area and besides no front suspension, which I sacrificed for hill climbing ability and the fenders that keep me mud free, and it lives up to its name. Only problem I had was finding a 3rd crossable stream, as this time of year parts of the trail heading out into the park area get flooded for a few months, but the first two streams provided to be very fun. Its not made to win any races, but it will tear up an old fire road, bully through a stream or two and climb a hill like a mountain goat. Just added the fenders last night and utility basket up front today, but when it gets warmer, I am gonna strip er' down and repaint. I am thinking Cat yellow or primer black. Enjoy, as this powerwagon of a off road beast intimidates the 2012 Schwinn Clairmont it's parked next to.
