So I went to my lbs to have my painted s7 wheel re-laced and the guy said it might be scratched up when re truing. Any of you guys with painted wheels had this happen?

I can't see it during truing. The actual lacing procedure (before tensioning and truing) would be the place where the scratches happen.

I'd just do them yourself, it's not all that difficult. I don't have a truing stand but I do my own wheels all the time. I just mount the wheel in the frame or fork and eyeball it using the frame rail or the fork leg as a reference point and try to keep the rim hoop centered between them. For rear wheels I do this without the chain on and slide the axle all the way back so that can't throw me off.

Get some of the blue painters tape and cover the rims with it. Poke a hole in the tape where the spokes go and lace them up. Remove tape and true wheel. That's how I did mine...no scratches. I do have a mark on each wheel where I hang the bike from hooks in the basement, but I can live with that. Gary

If you are patient, thoughtful, and careful there is no reason to scratch the rim. It works for me. :)

I'd find ANOTHER LBS...Are they using a Pipe Wrench to tighten spokes?

Sounds to me like they're Careless (but honest)

I've never scratched a painted rim by re-lacing or trueing.

(Not braggin',Just sayin')
