That style of brakes is the type that came before vees. They're called cantilever brakes, not as powerful as vees, and more complicated to set up. But yeah, set up properly, cantis can still pull pretty hard. I've done downhill stuff with them and never really felt them inadequate, but I have strong hands.
As for the construction of the Trimble, I really have no idea how it's put together, but I'm guessing magic played a role. I think there's a support/anchor of some type in the carbon fiber
yeah thats what I was thinking, once youve set something within it it'll never come out or move!...Un oh..Ideas!!!

Hey Matti, Mate those brakes on here are cantilever? Yes/no... Ive heard the term Y brakes used before, are these stlye cantilevers often referred to as the Y brake!
I don't know the term y brake, but those are cantilevers. They look like old Mafacs, I know Charlie and Gary liked them on their klunkers

I could see the y brake thing as a reference to the brake cable, it looks like an inverted Y when the straddle is connected

Before I knew what mountain bikes were, a girl who I met when camping let me ride her kuwahara. I knew it was love immediately. I can't remember anything about her, but I know the bike
I get that you know how I felt about mountain bikes then I got the Bertrand

Who says mountain bikes are tough?

That's a Horny Toad, records indicate only 9 made in total, this is the only one in this style. The picture was taken at one of the Test of Metal races at Whistler in the 90's.

Holy smokes that's a build. The components on there... Can't even imagine what a prototype Ringlé hub would fetch, let alone one with the provenance that Greg added. Very nice history in there too, great to hear a top level rider's memories of the old days. Laughed at him not getting paid by Shimano, so wouldn't use the shifters, but headset, casette, bottom bracket, pedals and both derailleurs all are Shimano. Says something about the quality of Deore, almost essential back then.

This pair is pretty special. I'll quote the owner:
"Snagged these absolute time capsule ‘86 Rockhoppers, 26x26 and a carbon-copy 24x24. Couldn't say no to such a decked out pair of bikes. Pristine Deerhead throughout with stickers still covering the derailleurs, Saturae Z28s and Specialized hubs with 167.5mm Flags to match their 175mm counterparts"

@ingola imagine the matching outfits we'd have to come up with if we rode those two together
