I picked up a Micargi Huntington that obviously had some issues. it had a 7 gear rear wheel and derailleur, no bearings for the headset, and a neck and handlebars from what picture-415was probably an old 80’s Murray. The frame was very nicked up as were the forks. The seat was not going to pass muster. I took it apart and began with sanding the frame and fork down to get it ready for a nice new coat of paint.
Looking online I found inspiration from another large framed mod, this one had a motor and other additions but what caught my eye was the yellow wires they had routed along the frame. They went with the curve of the top bar and I immediately felt like this would be what I did as well but I’d do it my way.
I had some metallic blue from the last bike so after the primer went on, I used it along the frame like the yellow wires had, but I also wanted to bring back some of the cues I was using last year and also use the lines I had done in the yellow and black cruiser. The next day I put some pin striping tape down and masked off the area I wanted to keep matte. I sprayed gloss black on the top bar, then used clear on the rest of the rear. had a little trouble with the area near the bottom bracket and had to re-sand that area down and paint again, but it came out pretty nice.
I used the Shimano Nexus 3 speed gearing along with the rest of the wheels, neck, bearings and bars from the yellow and black cruiser to get this one completed. I had the black and yellow for about a week with no responses from Craigslist ad’s I had placed. I also added a basket in the front that would have gone with the other bike as well. With no responses on that one, I was beginning to wonder if there was a drying up in the area market.
While working on this one, images I put up on facebook were getting positive responses. A news report came today that gas prices were about to rise .15 cents a gallon, and that might be bad for driving but it’s good for bike sales. I posted it last night and had a buyer for it by the afternoon. Time to find the next one.
Here is the visuals on the work I did on this one.
