I put a set of bmx 3 piece cranks in the other day with the 19mm spindle and sealed bearings. I got to thinking about that sleeve spacer they supply with the bb. it was too long, I didn't feel like cutting it and trying to make it fit all perfect. im thinking the whole setup would tighten down much better and probably stay tight if the sleeve spacer was in place between the bearings im sure it would be better for the bearings too. so does everyone run the spacer with the 3 piece cranks?

Yeah, it really sucks to have to cut'm down... i've had to do that a few times. Some BBs come with 2 tubes (49mm and 51mm, i think...) to fit different BB shells; I recently used a Black Ops Amercan BB set that had one tube, but it threaded together at the one end so you had 2 lengths you could run, without cutting. (I used it on a Schwinn Super Sport, and ended up using the whole thing... it needed the longer tube.) It might be too late now, but I usually follow the instructions on danscomp.com, which makes it easier to visualize exactly how much to cut down, if any.

B808, you used one of those yst bb before right? That is infinitely adjustable and didn't come with a sleeve, right? I didn't give this one much thought and just put it together without the sleeve because that one had no sleeve.
@jamesdart Yes, I installed one of these YST sealed square taper jawns; it doesn't come with a sleeve and it doesn't need one, b/c the design is different from the typical BMX-type bottom bracket. I liked this set a lot for what it is, but i have to confess, it didn't allow for as much inboard adjustment as i would've liked for the crank/rear hub set-up i was using it for. I ended up being able to move the rear cog out a few mm, which saved the day.... But the BB set itself is well finished, easily adjusted, and has nice bearings.
On this one I used the redline monster crank and rl bb. After work I took it apart did some measuring. Turns out I was wrong about having to cut the sleeve. It was the perfect size. Put it back together.
