Found this bike in a church member's junk yard earlier this week. I have been to his place for bike parts before but somehow I missed this GT before. Looks like it's been run over. The rear chain stays, mostly on one side are pretty bad, there is a crack (I have a welder), the rear wheel was toast, but I will probably save the hub, the chainring is bent, but otherwise the bike is decent.

This first picture was from my phone in the dark, so the quality sucks, but here it is complete with bar ends! haha

My intention was not to find a bike to fix, I really want to use the stem, seat post, and seat post clamp on one of my rat bikes, but the sting from someone stealing my '98 Diamondback Joker that I bought new a few months ago still has me wanting another BMX.

What to do, what to do...

Start with a better Frame.. Mount that to the garage wall to look at..and when you do . think how smart you for not trying to fix it..LOL

You could fix that but it would take a lot of time and patience, and I don't think the left side is savable at all as it is. The right side rear stays almost look a little tweaked in one photo too, but maybe that's an illusion. If not, that should be fixable as is with some patient tweaking. On the left side, if you were going to save it, the lower rear stay tube would probably be most easily fixed by replacement. In which case, it would really pay to have an identical donor frame or with any other so long as the tubing is close enough to match. The dropout can probably be straightened with out too much pain, I would guess. If you absolutely loved the frame, fixing it would be justifiable, otherwise I would just keep it as a bit of wall/yard art. My $.02

I posted this on BMXmuseum.com just before posting here and (surprise surprise) no replies yet.

I also wanted to post photos of it because I know that GT is a good brand name (in my opinion) but I don't know anything about the value or rarity of older BMX stuff. So far nobody has been jumping up and down about this frame, so I will probably press out the cups and store it away for scrap/build material.

All my junking in the past months and I still can't find any 26" bike stuff (all my stuff is freebies).

You can find another Mach One f/f for far less than it would cost to repair that one. I'd say grab what is worth salvaging and move on.

Pretty much already done. I think I will take my cut off wheel and hack off the chainstays smooth from the seatpost, throw them out and keep the rest.

agree. you can find these all over for way less than it'll cost to fix this one. Wall hanging sounds nice.

I'd also keep the rear dropouts just in case you decide to make your own chainstays......Also if they are GT stamped it'd make a nice touch to hang on to

Here is the deal with this frame. You should keep it. Sure it's dented bent and cracked- and pink and only a Mach One -----BUT-- Looking at where prices went for some choice BMX relics in 20 or 30 years, this frame is certainly going to be worth something in 700 years.

Something we wouldn't even look twice at now, will be in a museum in 700 years.

Think of it like that!

It's a keeper!

i cant imagine that pink being the common, although bold was the thing in the 80s. i know the purple was pretty rare, in the same frame style. i think a wall hanger would be the most fitting job for this relic. 8)

I've actualy saved a frame damaged like that before, it was a funny day too, I put it on the better side took a block of wood then started beading the bent part with a small sledge lol, I got it bent back not to bad, then just neatly welded the broken piece abit, it was a larger bike though

^^^ What he said.
The Pretzel frame. I cut off the warped bars and bet them with a 2 # sledge and a 2x4 on the floor.
