I've got a Schwinn Varsity with 27 inch wheels I'm playing with. I believe the rims are original, they say "Schwinn S6." When I put new tires on, they rub the chrome fenders.
The solution seems clear: Bob 'em.

This is my first time cutting up anything on a bike. Can somebody help me not mess it up? What am I going to overlook?

OK I found a post with some bobbing tips, so I have a little more insight. Would still appreciate hearing from experienced mechanics.

Is there anything that's not obvious or intuitive about cutting up fenders?

Cut them long.

You can always cut more off but its a little tougher to put the metal back on when you cut it too short.

Dont be afraid.Have at it.I've done many.
