I kind of like the no brand hub with the slotted sides. Just a bit of a different look.
The only clue is the D C stamped on it. Dia Compe??

After re-analyzing my drill plan on the wheels, I ecided to use the original marks. Double checked each one and used a fence to drill the holes out.

Worked out pretty well. No bit wandering like I had on the 7 speed hub.

I thought long and hard about rustifying these aluminum wheels with paint... ... then thought, hmm I've always wanted to vinly wrap a wheel.

After more thought I ordered some vinyl. Will size it up and decide soon.

Next up for this build, mark the circle and drill out one of those two front hubs. Stray Kats Ride is needing some attention soon.

Marked up the front hub and punched it.

Then drilled it.

Then went to the LBC "The Vault" to get bearings for the headset. I had nothing that small. Found an essential park tool, BO-3. Lost the last one I had somewhere on a night ride downtown.

Lots of classic musicle and BMX inside and old steel outside. There was even a penny farthing inside. Only took the one pic.

Diggin' the BO-3. I have the big brother, BO-1 but the keychain version.... :nerd:
Maybe I should sell mine to help fund my build; some dude is asking $45 for a Park Tool BO-1 on the 'bay.

My hands don't envy that wheel lacing job ahead of you! Looking forward to it!

Cool. That big brother looks more trim than the BO-2. Now you need the PZT-1 to go with it for your next pizza party 🥳 .

Hoping the lace job won't be to bad. The left hand is the one hurting these days. At least I planned ahead do deal with Arthir. 0 cross is the simplest and less painful than 4 cross when the hands are sore.

Sanding and me haven't been friends for a few years now.

I like it. It will be flashier than the brass on the frame though.
The wife said I can put the vinyl on her wheels. She wants me to repaint the maroon parts anyhow.

Wasn't planning to take the wheels apart, but will do so when I take the fork off it.

It will actually match well. I can even add some vinyl flames for the top bar and the lower bar behind the bottom bracket.

So, they would be welded on the outside of the existing fork to create more tire width as well? :nerd:

All 3 of them will fit a 57mm wit 2.35s on it, so I was thinking of just making the crown of the fork an inch or so taller. And probably bent out 2 or more inches forward.

looks great Chewy! love that wrap! ive never ventured into wraps but that colors got me thinkin!
Thank You.

I will let you know when I apply it to those gold wheels. That might be in September but I suspect it to be sooner.

There are a lot of colors for Vinyl. Metal, camo, solid color, etc. Glow in the dark, reflective, holographic, rusty patina and more.

For tomorrow or the next day. The foil leaf arrived and will be taking care of it soon.

Looking forward to seeing the foil leaf on those rims!
How about one for today?

About 2 hours after work to gild 14 leaves onto one rim
20230515_142427.jpg

Hung it from the hook the kitchen light is usually hanging from and hooked two bungees to hang the wheel from.

First started one leaf at a time and then put more on, brushed it down with the dry brush

Then cottonball to help smooth it a bit more and remove any of the folded foil.
