broken derailleur

Well today i broke my rear derailleur. I really don't know how it happened but it was while i was riding. I was pissed because i left my chain breaking tool at home and i was 15 miles away from home. :x so i had to call my sister to pick me up. Now i'm in need of help choosing a derailleur for my bike. I'm clueless about what should i get. Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

would it be possible to find another old derailleur and take the idler wheel pieces off of it?

eh i really don't want to use the derailleur again. I want to get another derailleir. anyone have any suggestions?

Looks like its probably old stuff going by the Suntour label, how many gears on the freewheel ?

I like Suntour GT's they seem pretty strong and there really easy to adjust.

Just the bolt got loose and the idler fell off get another bolt and idler and you will be good as new again g/l Tony

I like Suntour GT's they seem pretty strong and there really easy to adjust.

Isn't that what that was? I recommend anything you can find in the trash w/5 or 6 cogs. Shimano, Schwinn, Suntour, or even Falcon, they all work as long as the part you broke ranges far enough to clear your gear spread.

Nope that's not a GT but it is a suntour.
