Hey y'all. I'm building a 50's era 26" Schwinn Black Phantom board track bike. My bike was passed down to me from a cousin who had the bike since brand new and gave us the bike thinking it wasn't of any value. It is in pretty damn good condition, almost completely rust free with great patina, but is missing a few parts. Recently this cousin of mine passed away and i have taken on alot of interest in making this bike my own and enjoying it like he did. I'm missing handlebars, tank, and the wheels and tires are shot. I'm in need of a resource or even a little help finding these parts in original condition and nothing fantastic, but not rusted out and usable pieces. Hope everyone will enjoy seeing my phantom at car shows in the back of my '55 ford pickup and the fact a 22 year old kid enjoys everything old school and couldn't care less for the new junk-Greg Hardy

If that is an original Black Phantom...I'd restore it using original patina'd parts.(its only original once)

...and make a Boardtracker outa something else.

But its your bike.Do what ya want and screw what anybody else thinks.Thats my theory, anyway.

It is an original phantom but it is only a frame and and is missing some of the more expensive pieces like the tank and it doesn't even have fenders. I plan on leaving all the original parts in the condition they are in and not hacking them up. That would be a shame to do especially if the bike was in perfect condition, but it's not. I plan on riding the hell out of it and whatever pieces i don't use i will stash them away in case some day i decide to make it correct. I'll load pics on here of it as soon as i figure out how to haha

That's the same basic situation I'm in with my Phantom - needs the tank, fenders, lights, seat, etc. Based on prices on fleaBay, I'd have to spend $5-600 just to find the parts I need. At that point, I'd only restore it because I want to, not to increase its value. But it was never about that anyway...
