We had the same thing in Florida back in 1998. My Guard unit was called up for support. Forest management required controlled burns to help prevent wildfires but homeowners didn't want to spoil the beauty. Drought a month or two before also made it happen. The high winds were unusual for Florida, so the fires burned all the way to the ocean unabated. The Santa Anna winds causing this now are a common occurance in California, so the forests must be maintained to prevent this from happening.
