BO15 Camelback: 26" BMX (Scrambler XL)

I want to do a spider and chainring like it's 1985! My build last year used one, and I don't want to take that bike apart for this one; I have plans for it.

I don't know where I got that one, but I'm sure it was free or cheap. I'm kicking myself because I know I've seen spiders like that for sale at swaps for 5 or 10 bucks, like recently even, but everything I see online now is closer to 25 or 30. Keeping my eyes open.

I am also considering an old-school option: in the early days of BMX, didn't they sometimes use the cranks and inner 39t sprocket off a Varsity? I have a Varsity junker in the shed that is looking more and more like a parts bike. Pic stolen off Fleabay, but this is the sprocket I'm talking about:

Chain guard is going, just haven't unbolted it yet. I have a seat and seatpost on the way.

Also, a friend who I have been asking about stuff for this project just told me today about a set of new black 26" BMX rims (FitBikeCo.) that he can get for $100 plus shipping. Too late for this build, as I got shipping confirmation today that the silver rims I ordered have shipped, but now I am having visions of the black rims on my yellow Speedster frame...

Your graphics always look good, go for it!

The build off is only as long as you make it. If it takes you 3 days, 13 days, 30 days, or 3 months; that's as long as it needs to be for you and your build.

I've learned that the key is to stop before you think you are done. Sort of a modified "less is more" philosophy.

All that said, any thought to a big kid's 'nad pad' for the top tube? Those foam pipe insulation pieces covered with a cool fabric / vinyl might be a fun doo dad.

Been putting miles on this bike; I really like that it feels nimble like a 20" BMX compared to my regular 26" cruisers. It needed a brake upgrade, though, so I did some Kool-Stop Salmon pads from BMX Guru.

I even hit the local pump track with it yesterday, though I did NOT go for any kind of air. First of all, I'm running a cheap Sunlite fork which I'm told will not hold up to that kind of abuse, and second, I'm not interested in being a featured FAIL video in the Middle-Aged Dweebs category.

Amazing what something as small as brake pads do to a bike. Just those little pads gives the bike a little more personality... I think.

Totally agree with you. That's actually why I included the pic of the whole bike; those little orange pads stand out. Kinda the same effect as painted brake calipers on a car.

Not sure of the frame builder, Charlie Kelly thinks it might be his old Craig Mitchell, but that's not confirmed. Yeah, newer suntour thumbs, but they look the part. The suntour levers let you grab a lot of brake, that helps slow it down.

not much activity on this, other than taking it out and enjoying it when there's time, but there hasn't been much of that lately. Also I kinda like it the way it is, even if it was just a simple parts buildup. Hopefully will tweak a few things at the end of August as things wind down.
