i've seen them on ebay for $65 but i found a web site that had them for 30 but were sold out. if any one knows of a site that i can find them please let me know. i keep putting money in my bikes and i need to slow down on that. i'm doing my hawthorne right now and all ready got monark forks for it and i plan on getting white tires and grips for it and i want those handle bars but i'm now on a budget.

That's where these were purchased...made by Wald I think.

so i checked the places you guys told me about and they don't have them any more and i have only seen them on ebay for $65. maple island and they don't carry them any more and Memory Lane discontinued them. if any knows of any other place let me know thanks

There's always the DIY option....
I made my own using a piece of flat bar, some copper pipe and two straps. it's not as 'finished' as a chrome unit, but with a little filing, some bondo and paint......

Yeah, the ones on ebay for $65 and up ARE the ones Maple Island and Memory Lane had. A couple sellers cleaned them out & then doubled the price. Dang capitalists! -Adam

Ive been looking too, with no luck... you would think somebody would be re-producing these for a reasonable cost. $65 is crazy when you can get a regular non-crossbar set for $10-$20

I couldn't find any repops either so I made my own.

I bought a piece of stainless tubing on ebay and cut it to length. I pressed the end shut and cut it with my Dremel with an aluminum oxide cut-off wheel so it had 2 tabs sticking out. I drilled two holes in the bars on each side, put the crossbrace in and crimped over the tabs. The stainless doesn't quite match the chrome, but almost. They're also just as strong as my original Torrington cross brace bars. Gary

i've seen a couple custom ones done with old sissy bars.

kinda a combination of the 2 above.

crimp each end (approx 4") wrap the crimped ends around the handle bar, drill and insert bolts.

Very nice! 8)

Nice work B607. You can use a buffing wheel and jewelers rouge and polish that stainless to where its just like chrome. I was wondering how you crimped over the ends inside the bars.

Probably bent them over by going through end of the bar with a big 'ol screwdriver, no?
This solution makes mine look like Fred Flintstone built them, AWESOME work Gary..

Cheers!

The tubing I bought had walls too thick and it was a pain to bend over the tabs. I bought 5/8" dia. X .065" wall thickness. I think 5/8" X .035" would probably be enough and much easier to bend...and cheaper too. First I had to pull the ends of the bars together so the brace would be tight. I made two hooks out of hard electric fence wire with a double loop of nylon rope between them. Put the hooks in the end of the bars and twisted the rope in the middle with a cheater until the tabs on the crossbar were all the way in and tight. I used a long brass rod with a notch ground on the end to get the tabs started bending...one up and one down. I twisted the brass rod with vise grips. Once the tabs were started I used a prybar that just happened to be the right size and drove it in with a hammer.
I think I will put the crossbar on the buffing wheel like Uncle said and see if I can get it to match the chrome better. Note to self: Polish crossbar BEFORE installing it. Gary
