I have been wanting to put together my ultimate daily rider for a while now and had some spare time while I was waiting for parts for my build off bike, Captain Slow:

I picked up a 1943 CCM camelback off craiglist a few months ago, I paid way too much for it but I have been looking for a larger framed 28" wheel bike for a while. The wheels, bars, seat & seatpost were all add ons so they went straight into the parts bin. This is what I had to work with:
Nice crankset with unusual knife edged arms:
Grease port on the BB:
The parts list
Brooks B66 seat
13/16`laid back seatpost from porkchop bmx
Chain, pedals, headset and other small parts from Chaingang Lowrider
Nitto Promenade handlebars
Schwinn truss rods
Bendix Automatic Red band hub on a 700c rim
Cream Electra City 700 x 40c tires
The first thing to do was a mock up to see how things fit together. The first problem is that the truss rods were meant for a 26 inch wheel, not the 28 inch forks that I have on the bike:
Quick sollution was to cut the ends off an old set of cheap springer forks I had kicking around. I had already used the spring assembly on another build so no hard feelings taking a dremel to them...
A couple of bolts later, all is good.
Everything seems to fit ok apart from the fact that the frame is a little tweaked in the back. Had to bend the rear triangle with a 2 x 4 just to get the chainstay to line up. The seatstay is still off by half an inch but the wheel fits in ok.
Time to strip the paint. A couple of coats of cheap rattle can orange came off no problem.
A few dings in the rear stays form years of putting on dynamo lights.
Serial number finally readable:
I went with Krylon Regal Blue (hence the name) as it was the closest to an old step thru frame that was at a local bike shop in Toronto, I loved the colour combined with some faded gold pin striping. Two coats of self-etching primer, one coat of regular primer and 4 coats of Krylon later.
Time for some gold...
After the pinstriping was done I went over it all with 0000 steel wool to dull the gold down a little and then put four coats of clear on top.
This is were I forgot to take photos during reassembly...
Final assembly completed (sorry about the photos, I used my cell)
I`ll take some better photos with my camera once the sun comes back again
