Can anyone ID this chaingurad? the sheetmetal resembles some Schwinn Autocycle guars but the clamps and tabs speak otherwise. the front bracket makes me think the frame must have had some kind of tab on the bottom bracket

the little cable guide on top makes me think some kind of 3 speed rear hub was involved.

Thanks!

Your thinking right, schwinn guard, but its the later style. The autocycles had a different rear mounting tab on them. the clip on top usually meant it was a 3 speed girls bike, but i'm not 100% sure they didnt use them on guys bikes too at some point.

Thanks guys.

I was hoping it was one of these:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180633474756&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

To my eyes it's just the mouting brackets and cable guide that sets it apart. even the rivet locations for the front bracket look the same.

that was the diff between boys ang girls ,ita 3 speed girls clip was for the 3 speed cable

I have an og paint 54 men's Corvette that has the clip on the guard. Seen a few online like that too. Apparently most of the time they used what was on hand, same way you see single speed coaster bikes with the brake caliper mount. -Adam
