Chains Broken recently?

Had my KMC chain on my RRBO5 bike break at a link last sat. on the Chicago Monthly Ride. I stood on it at an intresection in the city and Snap! sprocket up the back of leg chain on ground. Had to scooter kick it about 2 miles as none of us had a chain tool.The bike shop we went to was cool http://www.copenhagenbike.com/bicycles/ ... is-Leikier
and fixed it for next to nothing. I got to thinking and remembered that my riding partner atwork snapped one KMC last month. I wish I had bought a new chain now because he noticed cracks in more than one link. Any body else have this problem or am I abusing the chain with the ss drive line 52-18 its also 10spd size ?

I've had problems breaking chains too, I had a new KMC on my rat bike, went up a small hill going into an alley and pop, chain on the ground. Went home and pulled an old original 50's Schwinn chain out of some oil were it had sat for a few months and put it on, haven't had a problem since. China strikes again.

I have several KMC chains on single speeds and havent had problems and I weigh almost 300lb. I thought KMC was the good ones!!

They do make different grades tho, I usually buy the 3rd one up from the cheapest I guess.. still under $20 :roll:

Yeah I kinda did cheap out on mine, I got the $9 chains.
