That is the parking brake of the trike. It's from "Magura"
But you could probably use it as a friction shifter as well.

I was commuting in my shorts yesterday when suddenly a cold wind accompanied with a hailstorm came over me. The hail hurts! I stopped to put my phone in a watertight pocket and took a quick cockpit shot.
I could not shelter because I was cycling between meadows.

At home I was soaked and cold. The ride was still great!
