Hey Everybody,
Being pretty new to the whole bike build thing I was messing around with my Schwinn Fleet I'm building on and off(basically honing my skills for the next build off). When I was a kid I had a Hot Wheel Rumbler chopper motorcycle. The fork at the wheel had a cool extension that stuck in my head.
So I figured why not give it a spin.
I cut a few pieces of 1/8" steel ,four inches long and cut some drop outs in each. I welded 3/8" rod to the same flat stock and made some drop outs. These are my truss bars.
Will this work? I know it might turn a bit funky but I like the look. My question is on the truss bars . Being the wheel is out away from the frame there will be more force on them. If I cut a plate that sits on the frame neck below the handle bars will there be too much pressure on the frame and maybe crack near the neck?
Could I use a truss rod mounting plate at the bottom of the neck between the frame and fork?
Here are a few pics of it mocked up. Any thoughts from you guys who've been at this awhile would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

What I'm seeing is to put a slight ark in the truss rods that match the ark on the frame cantilever and weld the truss rods to the forks. To me the point of concentration is between the yellow dots I've put on the pic! Match the arks and I think it would be cool!
Only my opinion though!
I think you have done a great job so far, keep up the good work!

Hey John,
That never crossed my mind. That opens up a whole bunch of cool possibilities!
That's why I posted this.
Thanks man,
Jeff

One thing to watch , is when you put rockers on a fork that just has the slots instead of a hole , the force of a bump might be transmitted to a downward force and pull out the bolts from the slots. With the axle in a slot the force is always transmitted straight up and keeps the axle in the slot, and they still like the lawyer tabs just to be sure. Hope that makes sense.
