My cone nuts are too wide for my wheel to fit in my fork. I know narrower ones exist but the bike shop guys just stare at me like I'm an idiot. Can I grind the cone nuts to marrow them. I thought about using jam nuts from the hardware store but I can't find the correct size. I could spread the fork I guess but I'd have to spread it quite a bit and that sucker is solid.
Any advice?

It must be a tubular fork. I always spread first. I have never ground the conenuts down but might worth a try

Yep, that worked. I tried all kinds of ways to spread that sucker and that was the only thing that worked. Thanks again everyone for the help
