Haven’t posted a build for quite some time, thought maybe I’d try to document one. I picked up this beautiful Laguna frame a little bit back that needed some attention.
Most obvious is the ‘gusset’ someone added along the way.

the under side of the cig box behind the BB was also rusted through pretty good

I ran the frame by a local metal shop after I got it and asked for the gusset to be removed, and a new bottom for the cig box. Caught em at a good time, the next day I picked my frame up

I had expressed I liked the paint as it was and asked them to remove as little as possible. Which they did. Next step, to paint ‘match’ the rest of the frame.

Once the gusset was removed I had some bare metal. And there were spots throughout that had been sanded to bare metal, or just sanded with a heavy grit. I was able to find spray paint in the correct pistachio, grey, brown, and satin black that covered the frame. I covered any bare spots in kind of a random fashion, then laid black over that sparingly

Waited about a week to let the paint dry properly, then sanded it back down a little bit to my liking, and gave it a matte clear coat.

While that dried I started to gather parts.

I made sure to grab some stuff that had a similar hint of crusty to it.

Dug around and came up with a black pair of Araya’s that have a decent fade to them.

only issue is some brake rub. Which I just can’t live with.

pressed in some new bb cups. (I typically don’t like to use modern production stuff, but new Tange bb’s are nice, and I had a few on the shelf)

Had to swap the front axle from a quick release to a solid one. Though I had lost the axle for a bit there and was bummed at the idea of running a quick release axle. Luckily I found it.

Couple turns of some wrenches later and—

Probably change the grips and a few small things. But not today. Time for a ride

Nice job.
I would have maybe liked to seen it in bare metal tho. Is that a 2-speed rear hub?
Thanks man. I did consider bare. But I really did like the messed up paint it came with. My CBR will be bare metal. And yes, 2 speed bendix. I intentionally geared this rig a lil high at 63 gear inches, so the low would be more utilized.
