Just finished this over the weekend. Red sparkle powder coat with Harley Davidson black pearl fenders and chain guard. Nexus 3-speed, red glass jewel grips and Persons Majestic pedals. This was my first wheel lacing and it was a lot of fun. This one is for my wife, I will hopefully have my Luxury Liner done soon. Will need to get a headlight on it, just something cool, not set on a liner headlight. Trying to decide if I want to put a tank and/or rack on it.

Cool bike...I have a re-pop one,#3508 of 5,000. I have the fenders and rack back on now since a museum wanted it for a display.

Looks like you beat me to the first wheel lace milepost. :( How long did it take? Where did you buy your spokes?

I spent almost as much time measuring as I did lacing. I was really concerned I'd mess up the measuring part. Lacing the wheels was a lot of fun and easier than I was expecting. I started with the front wheel, and it took about 30 min to lace using the Sheldon Brown site to guide me, plus another 15-20 for truing. The rear took a bit longer as the sprocket was in the way. I took the hub apart and some very small pins and springs fell out (Nexus 3-speed). Then I discovered that the holes in the hub were larger then the heads on my spokes, so they would just fall out as I tried to add more spokes. I ended up propping up the rim on 1" blocks and reverse laced the spokes by putting them all through the rim with nipples screwed on and popping the heads into the hub. Once I worked out the method it went pretty quick, but still, I probably spent 3 hours with all the snags, including putting the hub back together, which thankfully wasn't too bad. I think the next Nexus hub will take about 45 min to lace now that I have a system for it.

I got the spokes and nipples cut and threaded from Tim Lawson [email protected] It was 150 black powder coat spokes and nipples, Union brand, $83.50 shipped.

Gives me something to think about. I usually spend more time than that trying to clean and polish my hubs in between the old rusty spokes!
