I couldn't edit the old thread title, so my first update is the change from Daddy Long Legs, to Daddy LongLegs. I usually try to save most of the activity for the last week, keeps the build fresher in the voter's mind.
However, I need a working bike with gears, and my method has earned me a reputation for not finishing. Therefore, this time, I'm adopting the Ingola method. Gonna get this one done as soon as possible and spend the remaining time on refinement and riding. Here's where we started

1988 Nishiki by Norco, or Norco by Nishiki or something. I found it in my parent's shed when they moved out. Nobody has any idea how it got there

I don't even remember anyone we who had that bike

for all its modern glory I think the rear rack is cool!
Warning: MTB rack may be less super than advertised!

I don't think it will get used here, I have another in mind if I rack it
What are the plans for this one?
I'm keeping it pretty simple. It'll be a long distance rider, so comfort and performance are priority. What would happen if a bike designed in Canada, made somewhere in Asia, was modified in the style of a British tourer, like a Raleigh. Or something like that

old style cantis and rims
I don't expect either to make the final cut.

Still staying vintage, but performance upgrades are a must. I want to hunt roadies with this one. I've got a brand new old wheelset ready too, never been used. You guys gotta give me time to dig the parts out. I think the only thing I'm missing is a non oval crank, and a saddle

I usually would be more conservative, not wanting to tip my hand too early, but full speed ahead is my new mode, so here you go, the cockpit is already set

Original fork and stem (stem got a hit of clear coat when it made an appearance on Good From Afar). New old bars from a guy in Winchester that might have been on Duck Norris at one point.

And these guys

Beautiful set of Shimano Deerhead thumbs and original Chang Star levers.
And here's the rack, just pulled it off the curb find Norco where I got those black cantis. This thing is robust, should be able to manage a few beverages for the picnic

Sweet original bike. I’m digging the 80’s vibe with those old style cantis and rims. Parts look similar to those I used on my Freeliner.
I was thinking the same thing... @MattiThundrrr , you got a matching windbreaker to go with it? 😂

Friction thumb shifters are the best!
Beefy rears (racks, that is) are Great!
Good plan and good bones to start.

Um, did I mention that I have two sets? I also scored a nos set of XT thumbs from the same guy. Ask Ingola if I was giddy
