Dating a Hiawatha Meteor Chief ??? (photo added)

Just picked up a Hiawatha Meteor Chief. Anybody know how to date these by serial #.
The serial # is K035729

Hiawatha's were built for Gambel's department store. They contracted with several different manufacturers so without a pic we cannot determine which serial number list to reference.

That's an AMF Roadmaster frame. Judging by the paint scheme, star sprocket, and collar that tightens the seat stem, I would guess early 1960's. Just my guess. also, that chainguard may not be the original for the bike. If the seat stem tightens like a handlebar stem, then it's maybe late 50's.

To the best of my knowledge there is no complete serial number list available. I too doubt the originality of the guard. I built the same frame up for my dad last summer. I think the closest you will get to dating it is '59-'62ish. I have a tank that will fit it on my shelf now if you are interested.

It's the original guard, those were leftover from when they bought Shelby. And I'd agree on late 50s early 60s. -Adam
