From a garage sale a couple weeks ago. Flipped it today on CL.

Nothing special, but it sold easily.

This one has come real close to me swearing off these things.

It cleaned up real nice and easy, aired up the tires, etc.

The rear derailleur/index worked like a charm.

The front derailleur which should have been easy to adjust gave me fits. It must have been bent or something.
I got it to work on all 3 chain rings as best I could, and was glad to see it go! :D :D

The free bikes I swear are the hardest to flip. Replace cables, patch tubes then replace tubes.Adjust and adjust some more.. Pay $60 for a bike and then try to flip for $20 profit some times doesn't pay off.

But atleast you sold a decent bike.

Yeah that's why I never buy parts for a bike I'm going to flip. Most cases by the time I buy tires and tubes I got $40+ wrapped up in a bike I might get $50 out of if I'm lucky. Then that's IF the cables are good. If not there goes another $20, now you're doing good to break even. Then don't even get me started on truing wheels. Lots of times if the bike's not almost perfect I sell them AS FOUND or part them out. I figure $20 for a bike I paid $5 for is $15 profit and that's better than sinking $40 in it to maybe sell for $50 and make $5. Or part it out and come out ahead just selling 3-5 parts from it and have an abundance of "freebie" parts laying around for the next bike build.

outskirts, I hear you loud and clear.

I gave $15 for this one mainly because the seat was almost perfect. Without that, it would be a parts bike, but I don't know how to sell cheap dept. store MTB parts. Most people want super expensive name branded parts that are probably actually little better, but they have a logo.

this one sold for $49 and I had 4 people wanting it. I think it will be OK for the buyer. I hate to think I sold something that does not work, but that front shifter was balky to say the least. She got a good deal, I believe.

Yeah that was a good deal, It's tough now days, with Walmart selling bikes so cheap it makes the used bike market really hard to make a profit. I had one last summer that I went all out on just cause I liked the bike and it was a really nice looking Schwinn mountain bike so I thought I could turn a profit......lol

After new tires ($30), tubes ($10), Cables ($25), Seat ($30), and a pair of valve caps ($5) I was in it $100 plus the $5 I gave the junker for it. Then I saw the same one brand new at Walmart for $89.95. I had it listed for months and finally sold it for $60 Just so I didn't have to look at it and be reminded of how stupid I was.

Also Normally I don't sell cheap department store bike parts, I do repair work on people's bikes in the summer and I use those parts and give them away or sell them for a buck and charge them for labor putting them on.

Whatever doesn't get used goes to the scrapyard and I drag home different bikes from there. That's how I got those 2 Schwinns and the Hawthorne.

$49 was REALLY good price to get for that bike since they are only like $79-$89 new. I cant sell those wal-mart bikes around here for more than $25 bux but I still pick them up at garage sales for $5 when I see them. Worth it just for tires and tubes.

I figured with taxes, this bike would sell new for around $100. So I priced it 1/2 of that, and might have taken an offer somewhat less. Like I said, I had 4 people wanting to buy it. You never know.

Edit to add: I happend to see what I think is the current version of this bike in Walmart last night. $129.00 (plus taxes, of course).
