How often do you oil your chain and grease your bearings?

Saw a video on line where a guy used a old 10 speed mountain bike and made a wind turbine. He could change gears to suit the wind speed. Just wondering how long the bearings and chain could go without maintenance?

Probably last quite a while if they could be kept out of the elements.

My primary bike has sealed bearings so im not sure how often if you ride daily. I usually go once a year if im not riding in snow/salt/mud. My old trail bike got fresh grease about every weekend we went out.

If you are making a wind contraption, it will be in the elements. Your bearings will probably be fine if you lube them once or twice a year. You may try converting the chain to a dry lube system. Sealed bearings on the hubs will help alot... And a rust buster chain by KMC. I always wanted to rig something up with a disc version of a Schmidt SON hub to see what I can do on terms of wind power...
