I was at a yard sale this morning and this OLD guy had essentially NOS 68 coppertone typhoon and violet hollywood   nicest ones I have ever seen.!

I asked him how much? he says he looked on e-bay and has to get $900 for the pair..

The problem/reality with Ebay is that people can ask anything they want, and other people look at the asking price and determine that to be the worth of something they have. Then they want a little more because theirs is better, and so on and so forth.
The good thing about Ebay is that the market sets the selling price. If it's not worth it to someone, then you don't sell it. If you started cheap and didn't know what is was worth, you may get more than you originally wanted. Both have happened for me.
I'm buying a survivor tomorrow and I'm planning on flipping it. But not being sure of the cost I'm going to keep my reserve relatively low and let the bidders determine the worth.

exactly...

By the way, I saw an all-original Schwinn Grey Ghost with a $2,500 asking price. Since my Sears Spyder 5-speed is similar because of the 5-speed, I'm going to ask $7,500 for it.

Fair. So who wants it?

I stopped back by on my way home from work to try and haggle with him, not so much... :(

the girls is actually a 67 and the boys a 68, he has know idea what hes talking about..

I love it when they say "I have to get this much for it".

and totally agree with the ebay situation, there's lots of high "asking prices" but that can be a long shot from actual selling prices.

That is a nice pair of bikes and I don't think his price is unobtainable on eBay. My question is what is Ty he significance of the photo on his for sale sign? :?

Ha, yeah I was wondering the same thing.

So after seeing the picture, yes those are nice bikes.... but not NOS by any means. He might get close to those prices on eBay, but cmon.... he's trying to sell them at a yard sale.

Since he's looking for top dollar, he probably needs to list them on eBay

Holy crap!! He shoots >--> He scores!! Man that CW is Sweet!! That fella will get tired of lookin at the old Schwinns after about 2 months of no interest.

I know NOS means still in the box. when theres no chips and still teets on the tires, I say "essentially " ...

To me... NOS dont necessarily mean it has to be in the box... but it has to be new and never used. Kinda like that sweet CW you scored. To me... that is as NOS as you can get. To others.... maybe it needs to be in the box unassembled to actually be NOS.

On those Schwinn's... his sign says "150 miles" that right there tells me its not NOS. oh yeah they are very nice, but not NOS.

I always use the advanced search on ebay when I try to find out a price on something. Check the box that shows "completed listings". That will show you how much the item actually sold for, or what they didn't sell for. I think some of these way overpriced items sell to some suckers, but the majority don't & they just keep relisting with a lower price.
