Haven't seen one of those in a long time!!! Those safety brochures used to come with most all new bikes and were included with the owners manuals. When I was in grammar school, we had the fire chief of the local fire dept. come to school and give a bicycle safety demonstration. We had to know all the hand signals etc. Thanks!!!

that is good stuff.
i had a similer booklet when i was a boy scout.
except the maintenance stuff i dont follow any of these rules. they're more like guidelines.
yes i was a safe rider when i was young. i even had tripple A stickers on my bike to prove it.

it's funny that most people dont know hand signals these days.
i use them daily on my motorcycle, and i often get funny looks, or a wave if i'm makin' a right turn or lane change.

Bicycle safety used to be a big thing when I was an elementary school student in the 60's!We even had posters in the classrooms promoting it, I remember thinking how weird the bikes on them looked to me!They were all old school Phantom like bikes, and at that age everyone rode Muscle bikes. The kids riding the bikes probably would have looked equally strange as well if it had not been for "Leave it to Beaver"re-runs.Do any of you remember the rule about riding toward on coming cars for safe visibility? This one always just seemed wrong to me!And I guess the powers that were, also figured that out as well, it went away fairly quickly after I became aware of it from our posters! Later & PEACE!!!

This reminded me about when I was in jr. high 69-70. I was the bicycle patrol. I had a vest and a sash that said bicycle patrol to prove it,lol. The main duty was to make sure there were no cars coming out of the driveway as the bikes left the lockup area.Cool part I thought was that I got out of my last class 15 min. early. Oh yeah I was in charge of locking and unlocking the fenced in area for the bikes, I had keys and everything !!!

Some mirror shades, a siren, some flashing lights and a hearty "Respect ma authoritaa!" Living Large!
