well, i tried to buy a new electra townie ... no one had what i wanted in stock, and the color i was hoping for isnt availabile. also tried to order a helmet for my boy and a kids seat and was told the same thing. seems the bicycle companies were expecting a lot less business this year. all the shops said availability has been super limited this year. guess im going to wait until august for a new townie.

2 years ago the Bike industry was running short of inventory because of swift sales thanks to high oil prices. Now we have this.

And that kids, is a lesson in how inflation begins. :?

i thought it started with an air hose and a foot pump

but yeah, looking around i did notice how the avg townie price went up about $60 since 2008 :? guess i need to get a few more 20's tucked away before august comes...

By August, those $20's will be worth less than they are now so the price of the new bike will be higher. Your best bet is to order one at todays price and pay for it now. Inflation sucks. You're better off with lots of good "stuff" than you are with a pile of cash. The "stuff" will increase in value with inflation and the cash will only lose. (If it's desirable collectors stuff, that is) With the amount of gov't spending and money printing going on, we may be in for a round of hyper-inflation. Gary
