picked this up tonight. not sure what exactly i brought home.... :? obviously the light isn't original, but i haven't checked to see if it was added to the fender or if it was pulled from another bike already attached. i have a hunch the bike may be a 28" with a 26" fork and wheels added later. the slope of the top tube and the rear wheel clearance makes me think this may be the case(?) the front fender doesn't seem to have been 'pre-creased' for the fork and struts so i don't think they're original. the fender braces are newish, the bars and pedals seem like later take-offs from another bike as well. i don't know what to think about that crazy seat  i like the '66' sticker and the old casper tag. i also haven't looked at the date code on the morrow yet (duh). perhaps it was 'refurbished' in 1959 before licensing. anyway, whatever it is, it's always good to have some 'raw material' waiting for a build-off :D

wow that frame looks just like the bike i just picked up. i listed mine as a columbia because of the chain guard on the bike mine dont have the head badge on it so its hard to tell .but the frames look the same ?

It is a Westfield built Elgin. Looks like the fenders are original as they match the Westfield dual pistripe pattern. Fender brace are not original. The chainring is Westfield, however the diamond cut crank looks earlier or leftover. I am going to say 1935 - 39 and I am sure Phil could nail it down. The Almite grease fitting will help pin down the year along with the serial number under the BB. Post it if you can.

yeah, that sounds good,i did a little more searching and was second-guessing some of my original assumptions within minutes of the post....there's a red one on ebay with a very similar 'stance' and good photos of fender clearance, etc. i dropped mine off at the shop on my way home and in my haste didn't get around to writing down the serial # or morrow date code. i remember i had a teens ranger with one of those diamond cranks. 2 straight cranks on boys bikes- they must be tough! at least i'm looking forward to going to work in the morning now. :D

The serial #, which is quite clear, is S 7837. Does that ring any bells with anybody? Searching Elgin posts I find serial numbers starting with L,M, and then starting over with A :?

im putting money on 37-38(judging by the grease fittings, top bar spacing, the drop stand ears as well as the badge)....most of the later motorbike frames were just refitted 28" frames with a shim to drop the fenders down some
