I've had this frame stuffed under a table in the cellar for a year, resisting the temptation to test-fit parts on it before the build off

my first Elgin :)

no idea what's under the nasty green paint but it appears to have been orange at one point...

my plan, subject to change without notice, is to take a bunch of parts from a bunch of different bikes that I think are cool on their own and try to combine them into a good looking bike. So far I'm gonna try to use a Murray fork, CWC fenders with curved stays, a Higgins rack and various bits and pieces from the parts pile. Stay tuned...

Rock on man love that frame just used one in the klunker build off .
My build off is a combination of all my favorite part for many different bikes . So I'm on board with ya ! We just got to make it work. Hope you don't switch frames [emoji41]

One day I too will have my first Elgin, until then I'll just watch.

The bike and ideas are cool....and your avatar makes me chuckle every time I look at it! :21:
Glad to see you back in the fray!

Elgin produced an orange and black model and an orange and brown model. Both had white trim. I like your frame, looks familiar.

Can't go wrong with a curvy Elgin.
I like the idea of the curved brace fenders on it too

Thanks guys, this build is gonna get off to a slow start, the first vintage dirt bike race of the season is Saturday so I'll be working on the Bultaco after work this week instead of the Elgin. I have started digging out some of the parts I want to use though. I'm gonna try to fit this fork

I've got a bag of headset parts, hopefully I can put something together that works... I also want to use these fenders

my plan right now is to leave the original paint on these and paint (or maybe unpaint?) the frame to match...

Still haven't done any work on this bike but I did dig out the wheels I want to use

J C Higgins rear hub

kinda hard to tell with the dirt and grime but it's one of those air cooled hubs, hoping it cleans up nice

I want to keep the original paint on the rims too,

I'm thinking the red pinstripe goes with the red pinstripes on the fenders

more to come...

A great selection of parts that you have so far!
