OK so i got the "7" seatpost out last nite, but what is this? it looks like a spacer between the post and the tube, but it's stuck like chuck.
yes i know stuff gonna be stuck on a 70 year old bike. will this come out? or is it permanantly part of the bike on purpose(like thepost clamp).
i just wanted to ask before i start heating and beating on this :p

It's a shim and it's not welded in. It just slides in. Or...it slid in once long, long ago. Run a long threaded rod down the seat tube all the way to the BB. Put a suitable sized washer and nut on the threaded rod and pull it up until it hits the bottom of the shim. Lots of PB or Break-Free and bang on it until it comes out. Gary

thanx for that tip.
i figured it should come out, but i wanted to be sure before i started whaling on it
